Well not the last one, we have the journey back to cover, but nearly the last one.
But before I do that I need to do this
Yesterday past script
In all the time we have been here in this mad place we have never once glimpse anyone famous
Till yesterday
At Universal Island of Adventure
And guess who walked past me pushing her youngest in a buggy and with her husband walking along in front with her other two………
Wait for it……………………
It was……………………….
Sally Gunnell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And she looked as harassed as I did.
Just goes to show, Olympic gold means nothing when you have kids!
Anyway our last day
Well it started early for me with Lucy waking me up crying with earache and me coughing like a navvy so very little sleep was had by either.
We couldn’t decide where to go but eventually decided to all go back to Magic Kingdom – it seemed fitting, but boy was it hot.
When we got in the car on Monday it read 99 outside and I reckon today was hotter.
Our two favourite rides were where we wanted to go so we fast passed splash mountain and queued for thunder railroad, where a very American Granddad proceeded to tell us that Britain was a great country and Tony Blair was a great man as he had stood strong next to bush against all the liberal types bringing our respective countries down and had they been around in 1940 we would all be speaking German!
He did it in a very New York accent.
The ride couldn’t come soon enough!
And it was a great ride.
Then we got wet – again – on splash – the clue is in the name – mountain.
By then it was boiling and I felt rubbish so we headed home to pack up and chill for the afternoon.
Its killing Lu not being able to go in the pool so I rigged a wal mart bag swim cap and she did get a little swim al be it with her head above the water.
In the evening none of us actually wanted to eat anything – that’s how you end up!
But we went down to a place called ‘the pub’ and what a find it was
Isn’t it always the case that it’s on the last day, and not the first, you stumble across a gem!
They did lovely food that actually had flavour – and we realised that has been the difference, the American food is plentiful but all tastes the same.
This was lovely and then to top it all
Elvis was in the house!!
Yes Nicks favourite, Elvis, was playing for one night only, so we ate and listened (and Nick had a pint) and it was great.
So now its 4 in the morning and I am still coughing for England but at least everyone else is asleep – touch wood – and we are almost packed and ready for off.
See Yaall
H
Our early arrival meant Nick and Dan – the coaster two – were able to hit the rides before the crowds.

Universal Island of adventure is a good park but with a lot of large rides, and a few smaller ones for me and my baby.
We couldn’t face eating out again so catered at home, with the help of the local supermarket cooked chicken.
An interesting fact about American TV.
We tend to watch a lot of news programmes as any other programme is so interrupted by adverts that they are almost impossible to keep watching.
The news programmes are full of info about America mainly the weather which seems to preoccupy them all the time and then the occasional story about school shootings or police shootings or road crashes,
But what is never
Ever
Ever
Mentioned
Is the war???!!!
It’s like they haven’t really got thousands of soldiers over in Iraq with some of them being killed every day.
If we don’t mention the war they will forget about it!!!
Helloooo
How stupid are these people.
Oh I forgot, these are a nation who advertises erectile dysfunction treatments almost every hour!
What does that tell us!

-am still recovering from chuck the mullet fashion statement.
So late afternoon we headed out to downtown Disney
What a place
It’s a great boardwalk with the biggest video machine arcade on 4 floors and get this
It’s all free
It comes with the Disney ticket and has every machine you have ever seen in any arcade including donkey Kong! If you are over 40 you may know that one from Morts!
We had a fab couple of hours there before coming home and getting a takeaway.
Great
So to today – Sunday
After a bad night with both my cold and Lucy’s ear – it’s keeping her awake with the pain.
We had a rather slow start but isn’t it always the case that the places you feel least inspired to go to turn out to be the best days out.
MGM didn’t seem to have much to offer on paper – or rather website
But it is a super day. Not too busy which helped, we went to the car stunt show first then Indiana Jones stunt show
Where I got as close to date to getting a Disney crew member to loose it with me! I guess turning up with 5 mins to spare and demanding a seat wasn’t the best thing to do but when she shrugged and I told her she should work in Paris Disney as she had the Gallic shrug off to a tee! She was not over lee impressed!
I bailed on the star wars simulator and the aerosmith coaster and the tower of terror but there was still loads of stuff we all did like the movies through the ages tour – Joan would have enjoyed that! And the back lot tour.
We did stop off for dinner on the way home but have sooo had enough of eating out and are looking forward to plain home cooked food. Just got too find someone to cook it now!
Universal Island of adventure tomorrow
Off to bed to get some rest!
xx

Let me regal you with our experience of the American dream health system
First my baby wakes up crying with the pain so I talked to the management company and they advised a trip down to the local hospital.
So Lucy and I set off down there
She with a smile as she has now had calpol and me with a smile as I am hoping for George cloney or at the very least Noah whyley!
And what did I get
Chuck
Beer belly and a mullet that would have made Jason Donovan proud.
Much form filling and we eventually see a doctor type person who diagnoses an ear infection – surprise surprise
Now the painful but
The bill was
Wait for it
$235
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swallow and pay and leave
And now to the pharmacy
2 lots of antibiotics – one orally and one in the ear?? Why
Well obviously because these people are paid by the amount they prescribe!
$160
WHAT
A RIP OFF
Now I know we can claim it back but I still think the system stinks.
I LOVE the NHS
She is now residing in bed feeling very sorry for herself as she can’t swim.
The rest of us have had an at home day but are heading out to downtown Disney later.
I am trying to get all the washing done so we can arrive back with clean clothes ready to iron – luxury
The boys are outside doin some catchin.
Hope we have window insurance!

 Comments
</default:description>

So
Much form filling and we eventually see a doctor type person who diagnoses an ear infection – surprise surprise

And we hit it, soooo what do you do as an alternative
Ya shop!
We wall-marted where my now naturalised all American boys got a mitt each, they will be paying catch the ball on the field the minute we get home, followed by find the ball.
Inspired by the purchases we ventured to the mall/moll and did a jc Penney denim hit for my son – who now has two pairs of jeans that he will be wearing in his usual off centre fashion.
And I finally got myself a little treat, well nick said it was ok and then I remembered the credit card is in my name – doh
So a couple of pairs of Oakley’s later we are lookin cool.
That left the evening free so we hit the Denney’s again where we met a lovely waitress who filled us in on the true America – i.e. having to decide whether you get health insurance or risk it and have a sick kid who you can’t afford to see a doctor with, or that a waitress gets paid $3 hour!! She was very nice and said she had 6 children!
At which Lucy asked her
“Are you a catholic”!! I nearly died
No I’m a Mormon she answered!
Nuf said
And finally we went back to seaworld where N and D did the Kraken twice and we looked at the polar bear – sleeping - again and we saw the
Shamu Rocks show
And it did!
Great end to the day
Think we may be at the doc’s tomorrow so bye for now.
Now there are some of you who may, on occasion, have accused me of being bit of a snob – and you would be right!
Tonight we went to eat at Ponderosa, a place everyone seems to recommend, and now I know why
It’s cheap
But then so are the people in it, you have to order as you walk in from a big board and pay there and then, we like to sit and peruse a menu.
Having ordered from the big board you sit and you can help yourself from the buffet bar.
I think the problem I have is too fold:
A place needs to either be a fast food outlet or a restaurant and this place, and others like it, are trying to be both
And
All the British people in there are the sort of people I go on holiday to avoid – most if not all were wearing ¾ length trousers and that’s just the men!
Cheap – it certainly is!
So in short it has become clear to me that I need to eat in places that cost more.
We actually spent the day very enjoyably at NASA
It’s a superb visit and was a relief to be somewhere less crowded, the whole place is quite awesome and the fact there is a shuttle up in space at the moment – it took off the day after we arrived and lands the day we leave – added to the excitement.
But it’s the Saturn rocket that really takes your breath away – it’s massive. We all enjoyed the whole day and as it’s mostly air-conditioned its even better.
It looks like in true Gadsden tradition, we will be visiting the doctors soon as Lu has earache which may be swim ear but could also be an infection so I am treating it as a blockage and will see how we go – fingers crossed.
Just to finish off let me talk you through the breakfast I had this morning in Denny’s – they serve you at the table – Ponderosa/ sizzlers take note!
3 Bacon slices
3 Sausage links
Hash browns
2 eggs – easy over
2 cups coffee
3 pancakes with cream and maple syrup
I am so lucky I never wear my lunch on my hips.
Have to go now as my stomach is pushing the laptop off my knee.
xx

Sweat
Ride
Yadda yadda yadda
Not that we are getting a little parked out or anything!!
It was a good day and Dan and Nick enjoyed the Everest ride and Lu and I enjoyed the safari ride and the Lion King show was great.
But we got told off for Lucy sitting down in a shop as we waited for the chaps and the parking attendant tried to make us back up as we weren’t in the Disney space and everyone is just so bloody nice as they tell you what to do and where to go etc that in the end you either become Disney lobotomized or you rebel.
We have decide to rebel
And next time we visit we have set ourselves the challenge of running over a Disney parking Hitler and making at least 3 Disney ‘cast members’ – I mean that the chuff is that al about, we all know they are just employees – the tart driving the car park tram might say she is our hostess for the day but we know she is just filling in time till her shift at the lap dancing bar begins – any way we intend to make at least one of them swear at us!!
There is a hurricane on the way as well. Will be keeping an eye on the weather.
Had an American Chinese takeaway tonight! Came in cartons just like on the cop shows – great.
Had to share an advert we saw the other day
A group of blokes in a bar, all jamming on different instruments, singing a version of viva las Vegas, about how they have to get home early and grinning, and why
Viva Viagra! We fell about laughing; they actually end the advert high fiving each other as they get in their pickup trucks.
Only in America

As this covers two days I’ll start with yesterday.
We went to sea world, not a very early start – again – but what a place! We arrives and queued to get in and browsing the queue, as I do, who should be stood next to us but Dan’s friend from his class back home, Michael and his family, what are the odds of that!
Dan was thrilled and would probably have stayed with him all day given the choice but we headed off to the dolphin tank, stopping on the way to feed and touch the sting rays, at the dolphins we were too late to get in the feeding bit so had to get to the trailer trash end but although we didn’t touch any it was still amazing to see them so close up.
After that we headed to the first show - the dolphin show of course – and that was fantastic as well. But the next thing topped even that.
The Kraken
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0ExZeczF8
This is a you tube of someone riding it
And no I didn’t go on – do I look mad!
But Dan and Nick did
TWICE!
And they are going on the hulk when we go to Island of adventure
There is so much to see there but we ended up at the shamu show having been to the arctic simulator ride first which left three of us vomiting and one – Luce – screaming for more – wasn’t she the one who vommed on an airplane!
Shamu was very schmaltzy, we had to clap all the brave heroes in the armed forces first – yeh right!
But still impressive. However the heat got to us then and we headed off to get dinner at our fav steak restaurant and fell into bed very tired. Hence no blog!
Today we got a decent start and got to the water park at 10ish – and it was still full! But such fun. You have to search out a seat but having dumped our stuff we headed to the wave pool, its huge and basically everyone bobs around waiting and then there is a huge bang and a massive 7ft wave comes out and depending where you stand (it gets smaller as it travels) you get to ride/be demolished by the wave! We started off a 4ft and kept moving forwards – everyone screams when the bang goes off – its fantastic.
Having tired of that we split up and had a lazy river ride and then a water slide or two and Nick and Dan went on the swim with sharks experience but having queued for 40 mins Dan got in the water and because it was soooo cold – it’s full of fish – he bottled out but Nick really enjoyed it. We got lunch and started to notice we were a bit pink, infact we had all burnt despite being smothered in sun cream! We had to leave. So that is our last two days. Off to animal kingdom tomorrow. See you’ll.

Well you arrive at the ‘castle’ and get your tickets then tour the medieval village whilst you wait for the tournament, Have to say it was very – seen it – after all we are British you know, although our castles don’t have aircon units on the top!
Its very tacky but great fun, everyone sits on trestles at the side in colour teams according to your knight – we were blue. Our knight looked about 12! We ate soup and half a chicken each which prompted Dan to estimate the number of people in there and announce how many chickens had been slaughtered to feed us all! About 400. It was all very funny and entertaining. I caught the flower from my knight although Nick says he was aiming for him and when he eventually lost Dan was very unforgiving. A good knight/night was had by all.
We only saw about half of it because in between queuing and fast passing and having to get out of the heat, we had had enough by 4. So headed home for a swim and pizza – very American.
Talking of which – things we have seen whilst here
A bullet proof backpack for back to school safety
A televised spelling bee
Actually this is the best thing on TV and we watch it often!

Epcot today
DISNEY
Finally hit the Magic Kingdom yesterday
The heat dictated an early start so we were out by 8 and after parking, taking the tram and then the monorail; we were outside the gates at 9 – along with many thousands of other!!
We headed to adventure land and took a leisurely cruise on the Amazon followed by a ride around the pirates of the Caribbean.
The children moaned about the first one – and Lu refused to look at a lot of it in case it was ‘scary’ and both children refused to look at any of the second one – they have seen the film for goodness sake!! Couple of wimps
It got worse when we got to frontier land.
Dan and Nick hit Splash Mountain and loved it whilst Lu and I tried to get some respite from the heat in a shop. Unlike Universal, Disney don’t seem to mind if the guests die of heat stoke and make no effort to help in the heat, even trying to find a drink was difficult where as at Universal you could buy a large cup for $7 and refill it anywhere with ice cold water, Disney didn’t even open the cold drink stands that were there. Universal had fans spraying water on all the queues but Disney has the odd tree!
After the splash we all went on the thunder railway – our favourite from Euro Disney – with our fast passes, and got all the way to the front till Lucy started crying hysterically as we got in the car!! They operator told her he would slow it down for her, bless. So with everyone watching us holding down the screaming child the ride set off. Of course by the third bend she was screaming in delight!
Having got her through that we gave the splash mountain a go and she only started crying there when she saw the ‘last chance to exit’ sign, of course she enjoying that as well.
We wandered around more of the park, taking in lunch on the way but by 2ish we were all flagging so headed back to the villa for a swim and rest – bliss.
We returned to the park – now much cooler – only in the 80’s now- at 7pm and had a train ride in the dark before seeing the light parade. We bailed out of waiting for the fireworks but ended up watching them from the ferry (an alternative to the monorail) as we cruised across the lake back to the car.
Disney was packed and very hot but we may still pop back to do a couple more rides another day.
We are booked to see a medieval jousting dinner show tonight! And have upgraded to royalty as I’m sure many of you know Nick has long thought he is royalty so should fit right in tonight.
Have managed not to burn the kids yet but I spray/apply so much cream they gleam.
Dan is proving to be his normal self and tempts us to dump him at the side of the highway and drive off on many occasions.
And on a last note
Why
Oh why
Do normal people think it is acceptable to come on holiday here and have a t-shirt printed for every member of the their family, in matching colours, stating the fact – ‘smith vacation 07’ I even saw one thanking GOD for the fact they were able to vacation in Disney!!
So a secondary plan was formed – shopping/ familiarisation and Disney quick visit later.
As it went we only ended up doing the shopping and having a late lunch/early dinner followed by a relaxed evening at home which even saw me in the pool for the first time.
We had a fab meal in a steakhouse and Dan is very proud of himself for eating a 10 oz steak!
Finally got inside a wall mart today – weird seeing George clothing – it was huge of course and lots of brits were buying stuff but not everything is cheaper.
The heat really got me today, It is just so hot it takes your breath away, Nick is much more used to it now than I am and Dan struggled a bit today, you end up going into shops just to be able to breath.
And tomorrow is meant to be hotter!
We are off to Disney kingdom tomorrow so up early to get there early to avoid the top heat. Mickey awaits.

Its no wonder these people are the size they are - and we may soon be joining them!
Wednesday saw us at Universal Studios, where you park in the enormous car park – we were in cat in the hat, level 4 – and make your way along the moving walkway – woe betide one should walk anywhere – and enter the park.
We enjoyed the day, but compared to even euro Disney it’s not as good. There are a couple of rides but to fast pass you have to pay extra! The longest wait was for me and lu when we went on Jimmy Neutron and waited an hour! And I felt really sick as cos it’s a simulator one – Ugh
Dan enjoyed Men in Black and revenge of the Mummy, Luce came into Terminator with us then burst into tears half way through the into and we had to be let out the back – she still won’t let us talk about it!
It’s now eight in the morning on Thursday and the plan today is a water park.
The heat is absolutely amazing people try so many things to keep cool but in the end you just have to grin and bare it, the aircon in this fab villa is brill , you forget what its like outside till you open the patio door to the pool and the heat hits you like a blast from a jet engine. The children are in the pool as I write playing ‘ Jaws’ Dans the shark bait, which is ironic as that’s what we wanted to make him when he kicked off yesterday!!
Nick has also badly injured his wrist, I can see us ending up at a hospital before long! He did it lifting the bags and its getting worst.
Congrats to my mate Amanda on her new job – knew you could do it.
That’s all folks

My plan to have 2 rooms at the manchester travel lodge , so enabling all of us to sleep backfired when L woke N up at 3 and I woke up at 4 and we were all up by 5!!
however it meant we got to the airport early, shame the flight was late - powercut.
The flight started well - and went downhill.
Dan bored easily and was soon declaring he would never set foot on a plane again - shame we have to do it all again in 2 weeks!
and Luce was ace
till she pebbledashed the gangway, avoiding other passengers but covering 2 Virgin blankets and a carpet.
I only noticed the baggies afterwards.
Dan decided a 7 hour flight was the extent of his ability - shame it was an eight hour one!!
Nightmare
topped only by getting off the plane and getting to the front of the customs queue only for lu to vom again as we walk to the desk
and then he asked if we were bringing any food in!!!
I didn't say it but could have.
So we are now here in the villa - its brill and we have a huge crysler on the drive - nicks living the american dream - its white and looks like a pimp mobile
the kids have hit the booze and we have been in the pool - or the other way round.
and we have had an american macdonalds - it tastes the same
Off to bed

Do you lock your case so some American customs officer can break the lock to check it (apparently they are allowed)
Or
Leave it unlocked so some American baggage handler can rob it?
It’s a toughie

So
8AM sees me ringing the doctors after my paranoid (concerned) friend warned me about DVT on long flights, wise advice not to travel with an undiagnosed injury.
Popped in to see the nurse at 11 who promptly sent me down to casualty!
What a drag
Although it’s definitely got better since last I was there – no vomiting drunks – of course that may be because it was lunchtime on a Friday.
After an x-ray I was finally given the all clear on the fracture front and left with a rather dapper tubigrip bandage, should set my shorts off a treat!
Just in case you are a physio reading this please forgive my earlier gaff with the RICE - now corrected by me very clever friend Amanda.

Well thankfully the R.I.C.E that’s Rest Ice Compression and Elevation, as the First Aid guy patiently explained to me yesterday - didn't dare tell him I am a First Aider! - Is working well and although sore my ankle is usable and I can walk tentatively on it.

This mobility enabled me to pay another visit to Warhammer for Dan to do another tournament - it feels like my second home, they have even introduced a loyalty coffee card!

Should have spent the day ironing and washing but have done nothing, guess it’s all on tomorrow or I shall be visiting America in my pants! That would shock Mr. Bush.

Going to America

Usa -6

Wed

Visited Lark in the Park today as a rest from being at home preparing for 'the trip' Here after known as TT.

Unfortunetely had a little trip any way and ended up in the First Aid tent having my ankle expertly bound by a large safety officer (no St Johns for this place) Apparently my £1500 Council tax isn't enough to prevend large pot holes appearing on the Rushcliffe parks, propably global warming - everything else is! So with 6 days to go I am sitting with foot up on the settee, hoping that I heal quickly

Will keep you posted
